Underground Experience 10-28-015

2015 updated iwantitall cover az iz1 Underground Experience 10 28 015

Mistajay: What is the story and conception behind your emcee name?

Az-Iz: I was given the name by an old friend of mine. He said that I don’t ever change. From one situation to the next, one day to the next, I always keep it “Az-Iz”. And the name kinda stuck. Been following me around for about 6 years now. (laughs)

Mistajay: What area are you reppin? What is the hip hop scene like there?

Az-Iz: Well, I was born in Detroit and raised everywhere from Detroit to Cali to Georgia. My current home is in the Augusta, GA area. And let me tell you, there is a LOT of talent in the music scene out here in Augusta.

Mistajay: You describe you style as MidWest slang and mindset combined with a slight Southern drawl, Az-Iz brings a certain level of uniqueness to hip-hop.What are your influences of your music? And what inspires you?

Az-Iz: Well, I’ve been heavy into music ever since I was a kid. My influences come from not just hip-hop/rap but also from classic rock. My biggest musical influences would range from TuPac to Bone Thugs, T.I. to Eminem, Everlast to Hopsin, The Eagles to Pink Floyd, Joe Walsh to The Steve Miller Band. I just love good music man. As far as my inspiration…I would have to say not only am I inspired by the successes of others, but I am also inspired by a drive to leave a legacy that I honestly don’t know where it comes from. I guess you could say it comes from being sick and tired of the nothing that I came from. Maybe that’s where I get the hunger from, or maybe I was just born with it. (laughs)

Mistajay: You are Still dealing with the aftermath of bad business via his first distribution company How do you describe your situation for other artists?

Az-Iz: As of right now, all I can say to other artists is “ALWAYS do your research. ALWAYS ask questions.” and also, “Take your career seriously. Know your value!” … Do those things is the only way to avoid the snakes.

Mistajay: You have released your second single, “Time Is Money , and  ”Her Friend” is coming soon…What is your best song recorded to date and why?

Az-Iz: Not to be cocky or anything, but I feel like each new song I record is my best song because I am still getting better with each composition. Right now, I would have to say my favorite song is “Her Friend”. It’s the first “twerk” beat I’ve done and I really enjoyed the energy on the track. My producer, Young Goku, NEVER ceases to amaze me with his wide array of sounds.

Mistajay: You are a member of GMT (Grown Man Team) with partner General Grown If you could share the stage with any 3 artists or bands who are still around and touring, who would they be and why?

Az-Iz: Well, of course I would be blessing the stage with my bro, General Grown. But as for the other 2, that’s a tough question. I feel like an EPIC card would be Eminem, Chris Brown, and GMT. That kind of mash up would bring out EVERYONE!!! It would be insane!

Mistajay: A lot of artists come into the game with a lot of ambition but don’t spend time learning the business side. How important to you is learning about publishing and royalties?

Az-Iz: In my opinion, if learning the business end of music is not a priority for you, then you can’t call it anything more than a hobby and you shouldn’t expect success. In order to be successful in ANYthing, you must learn the ins and outs and then develop a plan. With no knowledge and no plan, failure is the only thing you will achieve. I feel like it is a shame that soo many talented artists have no idea how to go about collecting money from their music.

Mistajay: Where do you see the hip hop going in 2015? How do you see yourself fitting into

Az-Iz: 2015 has been a crazy year in hip-hop to say the least. With artists such as Young Thug emerging as well as this new dance “The Quan”…hip-hop is definitely still in a “state of emergency” on the mainstream end. But as far as the independent and the underground scene is concerned, hip-hop is still alive and well, if not thriving better than ever before. The mainstream just makes it difficult to find the great artists such as Hopsin, Keyz2ThaGame, Tech N9ne, Greydon Square, Snow Tha Product and soo many more out here DOIN’ THE DAMN THANG! I’m hoping that with the help of GMT, hip-hop’s bright, new future will begin to emerge in 2016.

Mistajay: What are your future plans?

Az-Iz: Of course I have my next single, “Her Friend” (produced by Young Goku) coming REALLY soon and the video is gonna be CRAZY! I also have a mix tape dropping VERY soon that will be available for download ALL over the internet and fans will also be able to hit me up for physical copies. We are looking to kick off a small GMT tour across a few states as well in the coming months so definitely stay tuned for that!!! As far as long term goals and plans…I want a condo in L.A. and a mansion Miami, and you gotta know I want a Grammy! snowdat (laughs)

Mistajay: Any last thoughts?

Az-Iz: Shout out to ALL my fans, followers, and supporters. Without ya’ll, I’m just making music to hear myself. Also, MAJOR salutes to my team, GMT and my producer, Young Goku…Shout out to ALL my people back home in Detroit and ALL my people down here in Dearing, GA…Just know, we bout to TAKEOFF!!!
