Mistajay: What is the story and conception behind your emcee/artist name?

Bonni3:My first ever rap name was given to me by an ex…”Gatsby” so of course I didn’t keep it. I renamed myself Bonni3 because of how close me and my music partner Joe rode with the whole music operation: Because of how trill I am and how loyal I am I knew Bonni3 would suite me perfectly.

Mistajay: What area are you reppin? What is the hip hop scene like there?

Bonni3:Im reppin Virginia. I lived in almost every city in Northern Virginia including Tysons corner, Alexandria, Lorton and more. The scene for music is popular out there. There are a lot of artists from Maryland, DC, and VA because all those states are a whole if you are from either of those states. We have a lot of dope artist out there such as Young Moe, Will the rapper, Boo Gotti, 2 Hectic and way more. Music is everywhere here.

Mistajay: What are your influences of your music? And what inspires you?

Bonni3:Really anything can inspire me. Somedays my mood just inspires me at any moment in the day to write, but a lot of times I freestyle. I don’t like sitting and writing to a beat. I have to vibe to the track and just spit of the top.

Mistajay: How do you describe your style?

Bonni3:My style is different, A lot of autotune artists like lil dirk, tpain, dej loaf all stay in autotune from hooks to verses. I mix both my regular voice and autotune. I can do anything from trap songs to R&B songs. I would say overall my style is very versatile.

Mistajay: Your Latest projects an EP dropping this spring- early summer featuring many artists (Young Ratchet) a feature on Facts Baby album (Philly artist) a Video to “I know” with Jnothegod in New York What is your best song recorded to date and why?

Bonni3: My best song recorded would have to be ” Wake Up” it seems to be my most popular track and it was actually my first track ever recorded. It was produced by Riff Double O (credits VH1, Gap, Discovery channel and more) and featured FEA. We always had good collaborations. That track is just smooth.

Mistajay: If you could share the stage with any 3 artists or bands who are still around and touring, who would they be and why?

Bonni3:Drake : his energy level is why I would really want to perform with him. I get pretty hype when i perform. I have to engage with the crowd.

- Nicki Minaj: she has always been one of my favorite female artists. When She first came out all I did was listen to her mixtapes on livemixtapes. I feel like we have similar personalities so we would just enjoy performing would just be fun.

- J Cole: He is just a phenomenal artist who truly is passionate about his music, the amount of soul he puts into his music is beautiful. I would love to perform with him. I feel like we would vibe well.

Mistajay: You have CD distribution in the midwest and Southwest in 36 record stores for the “Wake Up” date for album drop changed to May 1st. How do you feel that is helping or will help your visibility and how was the deal put together?

Bonni3:I promote my music everyday very hard. Music is literally my 9-5 job. Jesse Value saw me promoting my tracks and took a listen and fell in love with my style appearance wise and with my music. ” Wake Up” was the track chosen. That track is just a song for everybody. Its smooth and has that R&B feel to it, but when Fea’s verse drops it ends the song off well. That song was written a year and a half ago and is doing numbers now. Jesse let me know he was doing a compilation album for the best Indie artist out and wanted me to be part of the project. So of course I agreed to be a part of the album called ” Intent 2 Deliver”.

Mistajay: A lot of artists come into the game with a lot of ambition but don’t spend time learning the business side. How important to you is learning about publishing and royalties?

Bonni3: Very important. Sometimes to the point that I get disrespected by artist that want to work with me. If you are seeking a career in music you have to charge for your craft. If you don’t value your work who else will? I am a registered artist via BMI. In this industry it is 10% talent 90% business for sure. So any projects I do I make sure I am making my money from them. Royalties are very important. artists who keep using free youtube beats will not go anywhere because you legally can’t make any money off of those beats and I see a lot of that.

Mistajay: Where do you see the hip hop going in 2016? How do you see yourself fitting into that?

Bonni3:The game has definitely changed.I think its still gonna be like 2015 style. I fit in pretty well. My style compliments the times for sure. My name is finally getting out this year. I plan to do XXL this year and get my first single shot for heavy PR. So this year I will be hitting the ground running.

Mistajay: What are your future plans?

Bonni3: My future plans are to expand my entrepreneur business and get my music known. I never wanted to be famous, but if it happens it happens. I see me getting very well established in the industry mainly because I am really on my business with what I do and thats what it takes.

Mistajay: Any last thoughts?

Bonni3: Advice for artists: days I felt like quitting I never did I used it as fuel and my career is going nowhere but up right now. You will struggle, but keep pursuing what you love. The only reason you can’t do something is because you chose not to! I have an EP dropping soon called ” Young Ratchet” on all distribution sites follow me and stay up to date with my projects.

Mistajay: Where can fans follow you and get your music?
