Earlier I talked about the part of the new difficulties and opportunities for indie artists this is the continuation of that discussion….With MTV and BET decreasing the amount of video shows and there parent company basically changing the video outlets have change the playing field for artists both commercial and independent. The commercial artists have now limited ways to market themselves in a traditional sense some of you may have noticed that more established artist are tying them selves to other products or projects to push their albums. Some of the projects and products are well known or music related and some are not which creates or opens up different lanes for these artists. Now there are some similar opportunities made available because of the internet if the indie artist is willing to put the time in and do the research. For artists this means using an internet tool such as Google looking for other opportunities to network. This is no substitute for what to be happening what I like to call going back to the basics which is not only performing but through that process developing a good stage show and touring. Many artists used to just regional tours or just radio promotional tours but as stated earlier the landscape has changed for the all artists to adapt but especially the independent opportunities artist to have to do more to get noticed. Performing in the early days of Hip-Hop were how emcees earned their respect as well as maintained and cultivated a fan base. Now performing can and be and must be used in conjunction with the internet and its various networking sites.
