The Underground Experience Dec- JAN Celebrating 10 Years of the Underground Experience Feature from ‘2/24/015
This months feature is a Jersey Born and Bred Golden area EMCEE who’s mission is to continue to hold the torch and teach a lesson about what is means to put out real HIP-HOP lets check out ………… MiilkBone
Mistajay: What is the story and conception behind your emcee name?
MiilkBone: I didn’t really have a name. Biz & Cool V called me "White Lightning". Then my dude Raggedy Man named me MiilkBone cause I reminded him of someone easy goin that can just make loose music to anything. The ii part is cause I was discovered by Naughty By Nature and their click is "Double I"
Mistajay: What area are you reppin? What is the hip hop scene like there?
Im in New Jersey born and bred. Reppin anyone who appreciates direction and conceptional music.
Mistajay: What are your influences of your music? And what inspires you?
MiilkBone: I’m from the Golden Era where music needed to actually say something. So my influences besides hot tracks are artists who understand the importance of not being a trend follower.... But a trend setter.
Mistajay: How do you describe your style?
MiilkBone: I’m basically a freelancer. I can do whatever but i need to make sure that everyline says something. Not just matchin words.
Mistajay: Being a Naughty By Nature affiliate what did you feel that brought in the game at the time you first burst through?
MiilkBone: Treach was my idol and to get the phone call from them was a dream come true. I was only 19 so the feeling was unexplainable how fast and big things took off.
Mistajay: After a four year hiatus, you resurfaced in 1999, appearing on Death Row Records’ Chronic 2000 compilation where you planning on signing with the label at the time? And what was your take on the label that was influential in changing the climate in Hip- hop in the earlier part of that decade?
MiilkBone: They only signed me to go after Eminem & Dre. I wouldn’t have signed to them at that time cause it seemed to be a time of there downfall. Plus I wasn’t tryin to get hung off a balcony like Vanilla Ice . Lmao
Mistajay: Your debut album, Da’ Miilkrate on June 21,1995. The album featured two singles, “Keep It Real” and “Where’z da Party At?” Both of which became minor hits on the Billboards charts. What do you feel is your best song recorded to date and why?
MiilkBone: Besides the features on new album wit Uncle Murda, Black Rob, Treach, Chino XL n more. My favorite song to date is "Tales of a Teardrop" on the new album. Its a story and really speaks my interior.
Mistajay: You have worked with The Game, Black Rob, Royal, Uncle Murda, Chino XL, Fred the Godson, Skrewtape, and have remixes with Rich Homie Quan.. If you could share the stage with any other 3 artists or bands who are still around and touring, who would they be and why?
MiilkBone: I'll share the stage with everybody but my dream and still haven’t done is share the stage wit Naughty By Nature.
Mistajay: A lot of artists come into the game with a lot of ambition but don’t spend time learning the business side. How important to you is learning about publishing and royalties?
MiilkBone: At the time I came into the game it was different, the label handled everything. Now its a social network learning effort to make sure you get your own ducks in a row. Labels want seasoned guaranteed sales ready to go!
Mistajay: What if anything else have you learned about the business from all your experiences?
MiilkBone: The biggest thing I learned is NEVER count on a hit record. There’s an audience for EVERYTHING. Just do your music and never stop thinkin that you can’t make it. Music biz is street life, never trust anyone. Keep a papertrail.
Mistajay: Where do you see the hip hop going in 2014-2015? How do you see yourself fitting into that?
MiilkBone: Not about fitting in
Mistajay: What are your future plans?
MiilkBone: First mixtape is Miilk and Doo Wop, which is already in the works. We just dropped my first video for “Keep it Real, Pt. 2,” and collabed with another joint called “We Up Late”.
Mistajay: Any last thoughts?
MiilkBone: Understand the importance of not being a trend follower.... But a trend setter.
Mistajay: Where can fans follow you and get your music?
MiilkBone: Www.miilkbone.com
