Mistajay: What is the story and conception behind your emcee name?

CAYENNE THE LION KING: Created my name from the spice cayenne pepper because anything it touches it inhances, a Lion because of it's Heart and a King to represent Royality.


Mistajay: What area are you reppin? What is the hip hop scene like there?

CAYENNE THE LION KING: I'm repping Durham (Bull City) North Carolina. The hip hop scence is really dope. We have a lot of artist and producers that works together on shows and song collaborations. We are also getting a lot of national noteriety from artist Like 9th Wonder, J Cole, Rhapsody, J Gunns, etc...


Mistajay: What are your influences of your music? And what inspires you?

CAYENNE THE LION KING: Life in general influences my music. From the simple shapes of clouds in the sky to the distance sound of people vibing up the street. My family, fans, response to my music and different beat instrumentals from producers inspires me.


Mistajay: How do you describe your style?

CAYENNE THE LION KING: Eclectic, Raw, Spontaneous, Reggae and Hip Hop


Mistajay: As part of the group “Da Phunke Bushmen” you penned your first reggae single titled

“Spoonful of youth” What is your best song recorded to date and why?

CAYENNE THE LION KING: My best song to date is "Ding Ding Ding" because it has begun to create a freanzy at shows creating new fans.


Mistajay: You have opened for Madlion,KRSONE, De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest and a host of others… If you could share the stage with any 3 artists or bands who are still around and

touring, who would they be and why?

CAYENNE THE LION KING: De La Soul. The reason why is simple. They haven't been on the road in a while, so I think they will be having fun in a lot of cities with thosands of fans that want to see them on tour.


Mistajay: What’s the venue you have most enjoyed performing at?

CAYENNE THE LION KING: I actually have two. Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill North Carolina and The Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, North Carolina.


Mistajay: How has being a promoter as well as an artist helped you have a different perspective on the game?

CAYENNE THE LION KING: From being a promoter, it helps me know how and what most venues think. It also keeps me humble when it comes to getting booked and the money aspect. I know how to negotiate my pricing for different venues and shows.


Mistajay: A lot of artists come into the game with a lot of ambition but don’t spend time learning the business side. How important to you is learning about publishing and royalties?

CAYENNE THE LION KING: Very much important, that's how you receive payment as an artist. Also, you will have the proper knowledge to read booking and record label contracts.


Mistajay: Where do you see the hip hop going in 2019? How do you see yourself fitting into


CAYENNE THE LION KING: I see it slowly getting back to the lyricism and substance. I fit because I'm a true emcee, a lyricist and pioneer of our hip hop culture.


Mistajay: What are your future plans?

CAYENNE THE LION KING: My future plans are to continue making good music and producing others.


Mistajay: Any last thoughts?

CAYENNE THE LION KING: I'm currently on my Run Di Road 2016 Tour approaching another 100 shows this year. I'm also

currently working on 8 more albums, videos and documentary.
