Underground Experience 11/30/20 Xception

This months artist is a NC songstress that defies labels or definition lets catch a vibe or feel a note with….. Xception Laray

Mistajay:  What is the story and conception behind your aritist name?

Xception: The story behind my name came about always actually being called “The Xception” growing up. They always said I was the pretty girl who they’d never expect to be a nerd, play 2k or other video games, I always had a hidden talent ( singing and dancing are a couple) and a different way of thinking even though I may “look” like the average female. So when it came about that I was ready for an artist name I wanted to have a name that matched my character. Xception was then born.

Mistajay: What area are you reppin? What is the hip hop scene like there?..

Xception: I’m reppin the 704 baby! The hip hop scene here is very versatile I have to say.  You have some that talk about some REAL topics and you have some that’s just clout chasin.

Mistajay: What are your influences of your music? And what inspires you?

Xception: My influences on music is everything in and around my life. Everything I write is either an experience personally or an experience I’ve witnessed. I love to tell a story with a message.

Mistajay: What is your best song recorded to date and why?....

Xception: Beat song to date would have to be my recently dropped single “You Think I’m Playin” because I really stepped out of my comfort zone and said what I had to say and then my homeboy cane through on the spot and matched the energy! I recorded this song way differently and will set the the tone for the rest of my music.

Mistajay:  If you could work with any other 3 artists or bands who are still around and touring, who would they be and why?

Xception: I would tour with da baby, Chris brown, Rihanna, and KYLE! I love their energy and the vibes that they bring !

Mistajay: A lot of artists/producers come into the game with a lot of ambition but don’t spend time learning the business side. How important to you is learning about publishing and royalties?

Xception: Well actually, it’s very important to me. Before I dove all into this music thing I did my research on how I could maximize my money in my catalog. What do I HAVE to have in order to RECEIVE ALL my royalties and it went from there.

Mistajay: Where do you see the hip hop/urban music going in 2020? How do you see yourself fitting into that?

Xception: I see it going back in time with the mix of the new age. I have hopes that with platforms being more accessible to independent artist is changing the game and more and more people are going to own their MASTERS and be their own boss!

Mistajay: How has covid 19 situation affected your plans as related to music?

Xception: It definitely opened opportunity to learn more and made time for me to actually manifest and progress as an independent artist/ entrepreneur. I actually started a clothing line to raise awareness to me and awareness to mental health.

Mistajay: What are your future plans?.

Xception: To continue to do what I love (making music) and helping others achieve confidence and take control of their lives .

Mistajay: Where can people contact you or find your music?
