Mistajay: What is the story and conception behind your emcee name?

Chaundon: The name Chaundon is basically a play of the Champagne. Women love champagne and the love me so it makes sense lol.

Mistajay: What area are you reppin?

Chaundon: I rep Hunts Point Avenue. Bronx, NY

Mistajay: What are your influences of your music? And what inspires you?

Chaundon: My influences began with emcees out of Hunts Point. Mike Smooth (R.I.P) & Fred Black. They’re style, music and influence in the hood was incredible and it left an impression on me to make music. Shortly after, my influences ranged from Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, Kool G Rap to Big L.

Mistajay: Your history here in NC starts with NCCU as well as some others in your collective you feel that that environment was fertile ground for your growth as a emcee?

Chaundon: Yes I do. My career began there.

Mistajay: Being  a member of HOJ and them having a critical buzz at one time how do you feel that has affected or helped your career or has it?

Chaundon: It has helped to propel my name to where it is now. The buzz gave me the opportunity to make a living solely off of music. You gotta love it.

Mistajay: You have recorded several projects the most recent being Baby making music and No Excuses. What is your best song recorded to date and why?

Chaundon: I don’t have a “best song”. I leave that up to the fans of my music to decide.

Mistajay: If you could share the stage with any 3 artists or bands who are still around and touring, who would they be and why?

Chaundon: The 1st artist I’d choose would be Black Thought because he’s dope and his stage presence is commanding. The 2nd artist would be Stevie Wonder because his music is incredible. It would be an honor and a learning experience to share the stage with such a genius. The 3rd artist would be DJ Kid Capri. Do I need a reason?? He rocks a party like none other! To have Kid Capri on the ones and twos will make the cipher complete.

Mistajay: As a indy artist what do you think some of the the benefits are, if any and some of the difficulties of being Independent?

Chaundon: The difficulty is the not having that machine behind you to get the music in places you can’t do with out the influence on the major. The benefits are building relationships to maintain your career. Also, having total control on your image and the sound of the music.

Mistajay: Where do you see the hip hop going in 2011?

Chaundon: I have no clue. We’ll see how it turns out when it happens. Its hard to predict what people gravitate to.

Mistajay: How do you see yourself fitting into that?

Chaundon: I’m not worried about fitting into anything.

Mistajay: Some artists have put a age limit on how long they see themselves performing and recording do you have a limit?

Chaundon: I don’t have a limit. I’ll leave when I feel its time.

Mistajay: What are your future plans?

Chaundon: I’m working on a cook book and a cooking show. It should be completed later this year.

Mistajay: Any last thoughts?
Chaundon: Buy my music! And join www.chaundon.com

Mistajay: Where can fans follow you and get your music?

Chaundon: They can follow me on twitter @chaundon
They can purchase all my music from http://chaundon.bandcamp.com
