This months feature is artist is representing individuality and true creativity in hip-hop out of the constitution state so lets flow with…. Xtra Overdoze
Mistajay: What is the story and conception behind your emcee name?
Xtra Overdoze was birth after my greatest achievement and my greatest downfall.
After screwing up my chance of a lifetime attending actress Tarsha Smith’s Actors Workshop out in California to pursue a career in acting I went on a twisted path to self destruction. I’d just ended a 4 year relationship and at that point I was in a Just don’t give a fuck” state of Mind. Got deep into the weed and alcohol to Resorting to extacy this night Molly another. Started selling an assortment of illegal products and living life like it was my last. . . I’d killed off the person I was
. .And then there was Xtra Overdoze.
Mistajay: What area are you reppin? What is the hip hop scene like there?
Xtra Overdoze: I’m currently living in Connecticut, and the Hip Hop scene is nothing different from the next. Local talent trying to get that 1 in a million shot.
Mistajay: What are your influences of your music? And what inspires you?
Xtra Overdoze: A lot of the influence that inspires the many themes and concepts of my music come from you guys. The world and the universe as a whole. Thoughts, feelings, opinions, views, perceptions, experiences, the way of living all in one. I created a world of my own because I can’t stand the world I live in. That’s what influences my every move.
Mistajay: How do you describe your style?
Xtra Overdoze: I describe what’s on my mind, Some call it a style. I don’t think in categories or factions. Style is not my style.
Mistajay: What is your best song recorded to date and why?
Xtra Overdoze: I really don’t have a best song but if I had to say, I’d have to say Celebrity Chick. Only because of the content and concept. I friggin love that song dude. Celebrity Chick is a spoof about the numerous sexual encounters with some of your favorite female celebrities So yeah check that one out though. Shouts to Joshua Penebre, Minds Eyes And JYNX for putting that together for me.
Mistajay: A lot of artists come into the game with a lot of ambition but don’t spend time learning the business side. How important to you is learning about publishing and royalties?
Xtra Overdoze: Learning and knowing the business is very important. A lot of the time your right that ambition is more channeled into the art. And that’s cool and all just make sure you find time to study and do the proper research. I always say know at least 10% of anything no matter what it is you know but hey I dropped out in he 10th grade, who the hell am I.
Mistajay: Where do you see the hip hop going in 2017? How do you see yourself fitting into that?
Xtra Overdoze: Down the toilet, (laughs) no let me stop. I had too a lot of my accomplices are serious hip hop heads. But no I think hip hop has definitely furthered itself in the sense of growth. Right now Hip hop is more appreciated by the world than ever before. You’ve got artist that literally aren’t saying shit like really nothing. But the world is enjoying it right now you know so screw it let them have their time. Every artist or group that made an impact in hip hop were once in this same predicament being told that what they do isn’t music and aren’t saying anything. So you ask yourself what’s really going on here. Me personally I’m moved by all music. I can listen to DMX this minute Marilyn
Manson the next Backstreet Boys later. It’s just music man.
I never try to fit into anything it’s all about sticking out so I just do me I don’t place myself in any category or genre. You can call it what you want I just make music for the world no specifics and that’s what places me aside from the rest, I rather it that way actually.
Mistajay: What are your future plans?
Xtra Overdoze: I’ve got a lot of different things in the works. I’m actually about to wrap up with recording my Album Helloween, which will be available this October 31st.
I actually have a couple of project dropping before that. A lot of different collaborations and of course more Grind Mode Cyphers. Shouts to all the AFFILIATES and the man Lingo. I am also writhing a movie script for Helloween and I’m looking for a Halloween 2018 release for that so it’s really crunch time. I’ve got more in the works that I don’t want to go into detail mainly because all the details aren’t there just as yet.
Mistajay: Where can fans follow you and get your music?
Well I’m all over the place just type in @soundsofxo for YouTube, SoundCloud, Instagram, Facebook etc. Check me out and thank you for the interview and thank you to everyone who have listened to my music and support my work and last but not least you people reading this blog interview.
